In 1956 President Dwight D.ย Eisenhower envisioned a wayย for U.S. cities to create formal partnerships with foreign cities. He believed that City to City, Person to Person, we could exchange information and ideas in order to develop friendships and deepen cultural understanding and peace. His vision became a reality with the formation ofย Sister Cities International.ย Mount Dora Sister Citiesย Association, Inc.ย is proud to be part of the Sister City Program.

Mount Dora Sister Cities Association, Inc. works to educate people on the history and culture of Scotland and promote person to person connections with our twinned city of Forres, Moray in the Scottish Highlands.

In 1988, a visiting Scottish solicitor initiated interest in forming a sister cities link. Mount Dora Sister Cities Association was registered as a not-for-profit Florida corporation in 1989 and joined by the Royal Burgh of Forres, Scotland in 1990. The purpose of the Mount Dora Sister Cities Association is to promote person to person contact and cultural and educational exchanges between the citizens of Mount Dora, Florida and Forres, Morayshire, Scotland. The association is supported by the City of Mount Dora Florida, membership dues, fund-raising activities and grants from the Mount Dora Community Trust.

The Mount Dora Sister Cities Association is an active member of Sister Cities International (SCI) and The Association of Sister Cities of Florida. The Association of Sister Cities of Florida, as a partner with SCI, is an international leader, motivating and empowering municipal officials, business leaders, volunteers and youth to conduct long term programs of mutual benefit and interest with city counterparts.
